Clubby Bar - Image 1

Tucked into the sixth floor of Le Capitole Hôtel, Clubby Bar offers a refined yet relaxed escape in the heart of Old Québec. From a spiral staircase just off the reception, you arrive to a dimly lit lounge where plush seating, ambient lighting, and artful touches form a chic backdrop for conversations. The bar’s signature appeal lies in its rooftop vantage point: sweeping views of Rue Saint-Jean, historic rooftops, and glimpses of Château Frontenac. In good weather, private balconies and terrace windows magnify the sense of elevation and intimacy. Its menu centers on crafted cocktails and a strong champagne / sparkling wine selection, alongside classic and signature libations. The hotel’s site emphasizes “Champagne lovers are invited to the Clubby Bar” and touts its curated selection. The ambiance leans upscale but approachable — a place for romantic evenings, pre-dinner drinks, or late-night sips above the city. Patrons often mention attentive staff, seasonal cocktails, and a sense of discovery. Some caution that the cocktail list can feel limited, but the quality and presentation leave an impression. In many ways, Clubby Bar strikes a balance between hotel lounge elegance and a hidden-gem lounge with city views.

Vieux Carré - Image 1

Nestled in the historic streets of Old Québec, Vieux Carré is the newest cocktail bar from Groupe La Tanière. The name nods to the famous New Orleans “French Quarter” drink, but here it evokes an elegant, intimate lounge tucked into the Maison Leber building, at 36 ½ Rue Saint-Pierre. From outside you might pass by thinking it’s just another street in Old Québec—black doors, soft lighting—but once inside you're greeted by lush green velvet curtains, a retro color palette of deep greens and warm browns, and a low-key, cozy space built for conversation. The interior is meant to feel like a hidden gem: vintage wall art of Québec, subtle lighting, and a sense of discovery behind every corner. Cocktails here lean classic, reinterpreted with local Quebecois spirits and a careful attention to ingredient sourcing. The menu also includes light bites that pair with drinks—oysters, small plates, tartares, and a Cuban sandwich, courtesy of chef Sabrina Lemay (who also has ties to L’Orygine). In the warmer months, the terrace opens to offer views of Place de Paris and the St. Lawrence River—a rare outdoor vantage in the heart of the old city. The lounge interior is compact (about 20 seats) but the terrace expands its footprint. Though still new (opened in 2024), Vieux Carré has already been spotlighted as an essential stop in Québec City’s cocktail scene. The feel is refined but warm, classic but local. It’s a place to linger, explore the menu, and escape into a hidden corner of the city with a well-made drink in hand.
