Nestled in the historic streets of Old Québec, Vieux Carré is the newest cocktail bar from Groupe La Tanière. The name nods to the famous New Orleans “French Quarter” drink, but here it evokes an elegant, intimate lounge tucked into the Maison Leber building, at 36 ½ Rue Saint-Pierre. From outside you might pass by thinking it’s just another street in Old Québec—black doors, soft lighting—but once inside you're greeted by lush green velvet curtains, a retro color palette of deep greens and warm browns, and a low-key, cozy space built for conversation. The interior is meant to feel like a hidden gem: vintage wall art of Québec, subtle lighting, and a sense of discovery behind every corner. Cocktails here lean classic, reinterpreted with local Quebecois spirits and a careful attention to ingredient sourcing. The menu also includes light bites that pair with drinks—oysters, small plates, tartares, and a Cuban sandwich, courtesy of chef Sabrina Lemay (who also has ties to L’Orygine). In the warmer months, the terrace opens to offer views of Place de Paris and the St. Lawrence River—a rare outdoor vantage in the heart of the old city. The lounge interior is compact (about 20 seats) but the terrace expands its footprint. Though still new (opened in 2024), Vieux Carré has already been spotlighted as an essential stop in Québec City’s cocktail scene. The feel is refined but warm, classic but local. It’s a place to linger, explore the menu, and escape into a hidden corner of the city with a well-made drink in hand.
