Vinárna U Sudu is a storied wine & bar destination tucked into the heart of Prague’s New Town. While its street entrance may appear modest, the bar unfolds deeper underground across multiple interconnected cellar rooms, each with its own mood and function. The cellar network is sometimes nicknamed “hell” — a playful nod to its subterranean, winding passages. One room may house a dance floor, another foosball tables, another darker seating nooks, and and yet another wine-on-tap stations and vintage bottles. The wine program is centered on wines from the barrel and high-quality vintages; yet U Sudu is not purely a wine lounge. It also offers beer on draught (Pilsner), rum, tequila selections, cocktails, and bar snacks (cheese, olives, small plates) to round out the offerings. In warmer months, U Sudu opens its garden courtyard in the historic inner courtyard of the house, giving patrons an open-air respite above the subterranean chambers. The bar is a local favorite for late nights: DJs perform Wednesday through Saturday nights, with music, dance, and mellow crowds into the early hours. Many visitors describe it as an “adventurous” venue — you could walk down one set of stairs and go deeper and deeper into more rooms, some unexpected and atmospheric. Despite its underground, party-friendly side, U Sudu retains elements of a wine bar’s warmth: seated wine tasting, glasses of red/white, and conversations amid the stone walls. The balance between bar, club, and wine cellar gives it a multifaceted appeal that can suit different moods.
