Protokoll Taproom
Nestled in Berlin’s Friedrichshain neighborhood, Protokoll Taproom (often just “Protokoll Berlin”) is one of the city’s standout craft beer bars. It’s not a huge venue — the space is compact, with industrial touches, exposed brick, reclaimed wood, and design flourishes that elevate the beer-bar aesthetic. Behind the bar, the tap wall is a focal point: 24 taps often stocked with rotating and limited releases from around the world, including many rarities. The bottle / can list is similarly expansive, allowing patrons to explore beyond just the on-tap selection. One interesting background detail: Protokoll has roots tied to Zagovor Brewery (a Russian craft brewer). Some of the tap handles are handmade in Russia, with wood, pine cones, branches from forest regions, and embedded detail. This gives the bar a unique identity among Berlin’s craft scene. Protokoll doesn’t strongly emphasize food. In several writeups, it is noted that food is minimal or absent, though guests are often allowed to bring in take-away or snacks. The vibe is relaxed, friendly, and unpretentious. Bartenders are frequently praised for their knowledge and willingness to share samples or guidance. The music tends to lean toward indie, shoegaze, alternative — enough to create atmosphere, but not so loud as to dominate conversation. In many reviews, Protokoll is described as a must for beer enthusiasts passing through Berlin.
