In the heart of Lisbon’s Chiado / Bairro Alto, tucked on Rua da Condessa, Toca da Raposa (“the Fox’s Den”) is the first bar by mixologist Constança Cordeiro, opened in 2018. Stepping in feels like entering a curated hideaway: raw concrete walls, rich velvet sofas in mustard yellow & turquoise, modern arc lamps, and a squared pink limestone bar. On the back wall, fourteen unlabelled bottles sit beneath spotlights — minimal decoration, maximum mood. The cocktail menu is succinct — about 10-14 drinks — each a wholly created expression, not just riffs, but original concoctions built from scratch. Ingredients are sourced with intention: fruits become natural liqueurs, herbs & plants are foraged or locally cultivated, infusions and distillations are done in house. Drinks are named after animals (and sometimes mythical creatures), adding playfulness: expect names like Hippopotamus, Ray, Unicorn, etc. The flavour profiles tend vivid and bold — herbal, textured, seasonal. There's also a small selection of organic wines and craft beers, plus vegetarian snacks. Ambience leans cozy and intimate. It’s dim, moody, and polished. Ideal for dates or relaxed evenings rather than loud nights. Seating includes velvet couches and small tables; stone counter for bar-sitters. Service is generally praised, though some reviews note that being busy can affect attentiveness. Sustainability is part of the identity: foraged/local ingredients, seasonal rotations, handcrafted components are core to the experience.
