Step through the door at Baseler Strasse 10 and you’re instantly in another world: Hunky Dory Bar blends inventive cocktails, playful décor, and vintage quirks to create one of Frankfurt’s most memorable nightspots. Conceived by Armin Azadpour (formerly of Kinly Bar), it’s not your average cocktail joint — here, atmosphere, storytelling, and interactivity matter as much as the drinks. Inside, the décor is a curated jumble of flea-market treasures: vintage telephones, old arcade machines, curios, retro props, and artful clutter. One of its signature features: seven wooden booths, each equipped with black vintage rotary phones that let guests dial the bartender to order or chat with others. The goal is connection — even for people who don’t want direct eye contact. Their cocktail menu is imaginative and evolving. Classics and twists live side by side, with “tap cocktails” (pre-mixed on draft) among the offerings. Some notable cocktails include the “Break Point” (hibiscus vodka, apricot brandy, agave, lime, pickled chili) and a “Penicillin” variant served via syringe. The menu also includes small tapas-style bites — tuna/salmon tartare, Flammkuchen — to accompany the drinks. The bar’s layout is long and narrow, with a central bar counter and seating in alcoves or booths. On warm evenings, guests can sip in a quiet interior courtyard. The music leans lounge, soulful, hip-hop and R&B — loud enough to feel energy, low enough to still chat. Hunky Dory is open evenings, generally Tuesday–Saturday from ~6 PM (or 7 PM) until ~2 AM. It remains closed Sundays and Mondays. Many reviews praise Hunky Dory for excellent cocktails, friendly staff, and a vibe that’s equal parts quirky and polished. It ranks among Frankfurt’s cocktail highpoints.
