Tucked away in Kyoto's vibrant Kiyamachi district, Bee's Knees offers a captivating blend of Prohibition-era allure and modern mixology. Disguised behind a bright yellow door labeled "The Book Store," this speakeasy-style bar invites guests into a dimly lit space adorned with exposed brickwork and vintage decor, all set to the rhythm of 1990s hip-hop. Since its opening in 2018, Bee's Knees has garnered international acclaim, securing spots on Asia's 50 Best Bars list multiple times, including a notable No. 44 ranking in 2023. The bar's cocktail menu pays homage to the Roaring Twenties, offering creative twists on classics. Signature drinks include the "Astronaut," crafted with Ki No Tea Gin, homemade cassis jam, fresh lemon, and in-house orange bitters, and the "Not Godfather," a rye-based concoction served with a miniature Capone-style Homburg hat. Other innovative offerings feature ingredients like yuzu, matcha, and Kyoto's own Ki No Bi gin. With seating for approximately 20 guests, Bee's Knees maintains an intimate atmosphere. The bar operates on a walk-in basis only, so arriving early is recommended to secure a spot. Whether you're a cocktail aficionado or a curious traveler, Bee's Knees promises an unforgettable experience that seamlessly blends historical charm with contemporary flair.
